Buceo en cenotes Tulum

A cenote (from the Maya "ts'ono'ot" or cavern with water) is a cavern that was innundated as a result of the caving in of the roof of one or sevral caves. Subterranean waters gather in cenotes and form a sinkhole. The calrity of the water and the rock formations, which result from a long history of erosion, convert them into one of the most interesting and unique diving, swimming, or snorkeling experiences. They start out as an underground chamber that results from the dissolution of rock with rain water. As these caverns grow, the cenote reaches the surface via the collapse of the roof. Cenotes were formed during the lowering of the sea level caused by glaciar eras. The cenotes were formed during the widening of the subterranean river networks, as they made their way to the sea. Swimming in these natural spaces while wearin mosquito repellent or scunscreen affects the ecosystem significantly. Therefore, we ask you to use biodegradable products and to shower before jumping in.

Dos ojos

Casa cenote

Calavera

Dos ojos refers to two neighboring cenotes that are connected by a large cavern and that seem to look into the subterranean river. The original explorations of this water system, one of the largest in the world, started in these cenotes. Dos Ojos was filmed for IMAX in 2002 and for BBC/Discovery in 2006. Dos Ojos is an excellent place to snorkel and for the first cenote dive for certified divers (it is possible to split the same group into diving and snorkeling tours).

Casa cenote is the mouth of a subterranean river that connects with the sea via a large cave. It is home to many young fish that seek refuge from sea currents inside its calm waters. It contains tarpoons, barracudas, blue crabs, and many other species. This beautiful cenote is surrounded by mangrove and is an ideal place to learn to dive and to snorkel, as it is not too deep and its waters are confined.

Carwash

Carwash, or Aktun Ha, is an excellent cenote to swim, snorkel, and dive. It resembles a large pool with a diameter of 50 m and a depth of 3 m. In winter and spring, its waters become crystal clear (they are always good for diving) and you can admire an underwater garden filled with red-colored plants, fish, turtles, tree remains, and caves that go to a depth of 15 m. While diving in the waters of these caverns with an area of 185 m2 you can admire large stalactites and beautiful light shafts.

Gran cenote is located only 5 minutes away from Tulum. Its round configuration, ample areas, and light shafts into crystalline waters render it an excellent place to snorkel and for the first cenote dive for certified divers. This site is ideal for mixed groups of divers and snorkelers.

In some cenotes, the water turns from fresh to salty after a certain depth. This threshold between fresh and marine waters is termed halocline and generates very interesting visual effects. At Calavera, this phenomenon can be admired in great detail.

Diving in this beautiful cenote with a high decorative content can only be offered to divers with previous experience in cenote diving and who have an excellent control of buoyancy, to preserve the rock formations and avoid unsettling the sediment, which is very light.

Angelita

The "Tim Burton" dive by excellence, Angelita is a circular cenote with a circumference of 30 m and a depth of 60 m. In this dive, we reach a depth of 45 m. The cenote starts with a layer of fresh water where you can see giant stalactites hanging from the ceiling. At 35 m, a sulfur layer can be perceived, which is composed of decomposing organic material  and looks like a cloud with trees. Below this cloud we find warmer salt water. At this depth, the environment is obscure, giving the impression of being in the woods at night. "Xibalba" in Maya represents the underworld. For the Maya, cenotes like Angelita represent portals to parallel universes. Diving in this cenote transports you to another dimension.

The Pit is the deepest cenote of Quintana Roo, with a depth of approximately 120 m. This giant cavern provides one of the most spectacular dives in the area and includes stunning light shafts that penetrate down to a layer of sulphur located at 35 m. This cenote has giant hanging stalactites and areas with a high decorative content. This dive requires some previous experience in cenote diving and a good buoyancy control.
